I was asked to write a poem for our Christmas Service last week.  This is what I came up with…

Decembers here, the list is made
The shopping has begun
The oven’s prepped to make the treats
We work until we’re done

We decorate the Christmas tree
With ornaments and lights
We put the blow-ups in the yard
For the children to delight

And in this hectic mess, we think
How we sometimes lose the joy
And forget the truth about the day
And the birth of a little boy

We forget the young girl who risked it all
For to God be reconciled
She had to trust and give her faith
Unmarried and with child

Her fiancé had to trust as well
That his future bride was right
And put his hand in the hand of God
The one eternal light

And then there is the baby boy
God’s gift like none other
God’s son who would grow to take our place
And be our heavenly brother

His birth was humble, not like a king
That he truly is inside
He came to be just one of us
To take on the sins we hide

To give the gift of knowing God
To honor his father’s wishes
To die for those, he didn’t know
To Give us God’s true riches

He walked among us as a man
He understood our pain and fear
He gave his life to save us all
There so much more than ‘Christmas Cheer’

So buy the gifts and bake the treats
No need to stop the fun
Just remember underneath it all
is the gift of God’s one son

This day we celebrate the birth
As each week we take the bread
And think about what we deserve
And how he took our place instead

So remember while you do your tasks
How this holiday began
Take time to pray and show your thanks
For God’s time here as a man

I spent ten years as a single parent of three boys. I then married my wonderful husband and he was inducted into the world of boy raising. Now we get to add my peri-menopause to the mix! Its been a crazy life...one I wouldn't change a minute of....

  1. I’m so glad I found your blog. My wonderful husband began his journey raising a little boy into a teenager about 10 years ago. It’s been a blessing and so much fun. My husband bonded with my (our) son immediately. As if they already knew each other, now they are glued to the hip. My two blessings. Also, I’m so happy see someone talking about the “change”. Ugh I’m too young for this , so I thought.. ugh I’m already on HRT. It’s ojay I’ve adapted, but the beginning was horrible. No one will understand night sweats until they have one!!! Haha when you have to shower 2 or 3 times a day, then complain haha anyways love your blog and Happy New Year 🎆😀
